From those headliners, game-changers (tight end Tyler Warren, safety Jaylen Reed) to the essential workers and leaders (center Nick Dawkins, defensive tackle Dvon J-Thomas) to the key backups and special teamers (linebacker Tyler Elsdon). They are among the players who will be honored this Senior Day when the Nittany Lions play their always critical regular season finale against the woeful Maryland Terrapins.

Only these may not be their last games at Beaver Stadium after all.

If these proven Lions perform as expected, they will almost certainly be rewarded with another home game: a first-round College Football Playoff date the weekend before Christmas. Their first playoff game ever.

To get there, they must accomplish today’s expected task: turn back the free-falling Terps, who have lost four straight and six of their last seven.

HALFTIME: Penn State 31, Maryland 7

Ryan Barker’s 53-yard field goal attempt to end the half was blocked by Maryland’s defense. Penn State outrebounded Maryland 259-97, and Terrapins quarterback MJ Morris was sacked three times – all in the first quarter. The second quarter alone accounted for 153 of Penn State’s total yards.

Abdul Carter was the standout on Penn State’s defense. He posted four tackles with one sack. Zion Tracy added another sack and Zane Durant and Amin Vanover each contributed half a sack. Smith Vilbert and Tony Rojas each contributed an interception.

Allar went 13 of 20 for 140 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter, and both he and fellow quarterback Beau Pribula scored a one-yard rushing touchdown. Tyler Warren leads all receivers with 60 yards and a touchdown, and Nick Singleton leads all rushers with 41 yards and a touchdown on nine attempts.

The Lions’ defense did what it does best and forced a turnover on downs after the Terrapins were stumped on a fourth down conversion attempt. Drew Allar scored on a one-yard keeper after a six-yard run by Kaytron Allen on the previous play.

Nick Singleton concedes a two-yard gain to give the Lions their first lead today. So far he has rushed for 11 yards on six carries.

The Lions are feeling cold at the start of the afternoon. They blew their last two drives and only gained 42 total yards in the first quarter. However, their defense with three sacks dominated Maryland since the opening score.
