The final college football game of 2024 will determine the first College Football Playoff semifinalist.

Date: Dec 31 | Time: 7:30 p.m. ET | TV: ESPN | Line: Penn State -11 | Total: 54

The Nittany Lions dominated SMU in the first round of the playoffs with three first-half interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. The Broncos are Mountain West Conference champions and enter the game with an 11-game winning streak. Their only loss of the season came in Week 2 against Oregon.

Boise State is unlikely to turn the ball over like SMU did in the first round, but it still has a tall task moving the ball against PSU. The Nittany Lions have allowed just 1,405 rushing yards all season and opponents are averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Boise State averages 6.8 yards per carry as a team. It’s trite to say that slowing down Jeanty is essential for Penn State, but it’s also the truth. Maddux Madsen played well in 2024, but forcing him to win is Penn State’s best option.

Live28 updates

  • PSU drive saved by penalty

The Nittany Lions failed to win on fourth-and-long, but that didn’t matter after a BSU penalty gave them a free set of downs.

There are less than 30 seconds left in the half.

  • BSU strikes back

The Broncos can’t do anything with their possession and give it right back to PSU. There is still a minute left in halftime.

  • PSU bumps it into BSU

With just under two minutes left in the first half, the Broncos will get the ball back. They haven’t had much luck in the air so far, but here they need to move the ball with some speed.

  • The PSU 50-yard run was recalled

Kaytron Allen just broke off the biggest run of the game, but it was all for naught after a hold call against one of his offensive linemen.

  • BSU strikes back

The Broncos can’t do anything about the ensuing possession and give it right back to PSU. For those wondering, Ashton Jeanty has essentially been locked up against a stacked box so far. He has 12 carries for 37 yards.

  • Penn State has to punt

The Broncos will look to close things out after a PSU drive derailed a deep sack by Drew Allar.

They will have the ball at their own 39 yard line with just over 5 minutes remaining in the half.

  • Boise State touchdown!

The Broncos are on the field in the Fiesta Bowl! It’s not Ashton Jeanty, but Tyler Crowe with a tough 8-yard run to get into the end zone. What a strong finish from the full-back.

Two plays later, the Nittany Lions gave it right back to BSU after a fumble by quarterback Drew Allar. The Broncos desperately needed this.

  • Boise State fumbles it!

Oh my God. What a disastrous start for Boise! Ashton Jeanty was fighting for extra yards and the ball was ripped out of his hands on the sideline, and PSU’s Zakee Wheatley made a great play, securing the ball before it went out of bounds.

  • I’m stating the obvious here, but this was the worst way Boise State could have started the game. This is not a team built to overcome big deficits without Ashton Jeanty breaking up 50+ yard runs at will. And Penn State doesn’t give up on long runs.

  • TOUCHDOWN PENN STATE!

What a start for the Nittany Lions! This time, Drew Allar found Omari Evans on a deep post route for a 38-yard touchdown. Allar has done everything right in this case so far.

Who else but Tyler Warren will find the end zone first in the Fiesta Bowl? The star tight end found open space deep in the back corner of the end zone and Drew Allar put him right on the button for the first touchdown of the game.

    Power supply 7, BSU 0

  • Boise State on the rise

The Broncos are already in the middle of the field after two quick first downs. Penn State does everything it can to slow down star RB Ashton Jeanty, and QB Maddux Madsen finds his breakthrough downfield.
