Penta “Cero Miedo” Makes WWE Debut on Monday Night Raw: How Did He Do?

Penta has arrived in the WWE.

The veteran luchador made his WWE debut on Monday night, defeating Chad Gable in his first match for the wrestling company.

Penta performed to an enthusiastic crowd at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, emerging from the darkness with his trademark “Cero Miedo.” He took it all in as he made his way to the ring with the crowd cheering him on.

Gable was clearly shocked by the showmanship that Penta immediately displayed in the match, be it his creativity, his acrobatics and his unique personality with which he got the crowd going. The American Made leader was able to counter some moves, including a German suplex from the edge of the ring, focusing his attack on his opponent’s left leg.

Limping, Penta still showed off some of the high-flying maneuvers that made him such a valuable addition to the WWE, even landing a beautiful Mexican Destroyer. Penta appeared to be headed for defeat when Gable tied him up with an ankle injury, but he broke free and used his patented arm destroyer – the so-called Sacrifice – to set up his spectacular Penta Driver. It would be enough if Penta then secured the pen.

WWE reporter Jackie Redmond interviewed Penta after his match as his family watched emotionally at ringside. He thanked the crowd in San Jose and showed his appreciation for being in WWE and his family in English and Spanish.

“This is my new home,” he said. “The real truth is that I’ve been waiting for this moment.”

He also thanked the people of his home country of Mexico before explaining that it is a new time in WWE.

“This isn’t just the new era of Netflix. Now it is the new era of Penta,” he added.

Who is Penta?

A man who went by several names throughout his wrestling career, Penta began competing in his native Mexico. He made a name for himself in the Lucha Libre scene, but became even more famous in the United States during his time with Lucha Underground. There he took on names like Rey Mysterio and, more famously, took part in intergender matches between now-WWE stars Chelsea Green and Iyo Sky.

After stints in Major League Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, Penta was one of the first wrestlers to join the newly formed All Elite Wrestling in 2019. There he competed alongside Rey Fénix as the Lucha Brothers, mainly in the tag team area. The duo had their biggest moment in AEW in 2021 when they won the AEW World Tag Team Championship at All Out. In 2022, the two teamed with Pac to win the AEW World Trios Championship.

The Lucha Brothers also appeared in Ring of Honor, winning the 2023 ROH World Tag Team Championship. Penta wrestled his last match with AEW in July and has stayed out of the spotlight since then.
