“Phoenix Suns do everything right with Christmas win against Denver Nuggets”

PHOENIX – Merry Christmas, Phoenix Suns fans.

The Suns stopped a three-game losing streak with a 110-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets and capped a loaded NBA schedule on Christmas Day.

Phoenix — still under Devin Booker and Grayson Allen — found the coveted energy and toughness that had eluded them in recent weeks when they seemingly needed it most.

After losing to the Nuggets in their worst loss of the season just two days earlier in Denver, the Suns responded exactly as many had hoped.

Phoenix forced 16 turnovers and provided 31 assists on the night. Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal led all scorers with 27 points each.

Mike Budenholzer on the team’s aggressiveness against Jusuf Nurkic: “I mean, the great players have seen everything, their teams have probably seen everything.” These guys have been together for a long time, but I think an aggressive attitude is a good start for us is. Regardless of (Nikola) Jokic and his ability to pass, score and do everything, I think tonight is more about us and having a good attitude.”

It was the Suns who were the first to step on the gas and left the first quarter with a lead of 38:34. Both Nikola Jokic (15) and Kevin Durant (10) finished with double-digit points, while Phoenix made its first six of seven shots from downtown.

The Suns’ lead dwindled to just two heading into the locker room at 58-56. Phoenix turned the ball over just four times in the first half while shooting over 50% from the field. Bradley Beal tied Durant’s Suns lead with 14 points.

A series of late plays from Phoenix on both ends of the floor ensured the Suns had an 85-78 lead heading into the fourth. Substitutes like Monte Morris and Josh Okogie made their presence felt in the third, a historically poor 12-minute stretch for Phoenix this season.

The Suns extended their lead to 12 with just under seven minutes left in the fourth quarter and didn’t look back, keeping the Nuggets out of reach until the final buzzer sounded.

Phoenix stays at home at the Footprint Center to host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.
