Photos show residents of New York, Pennsylvania digging their way outside after the Thanksgiving snowstorm hit the Great Lakes region

The Great Lakes region experienced its first widespread lake-effect snowfall of the season over Thanksgiving weekend, with some areas receiving between 3 and 5 feet of snow. The snow bands show no signs of letting up and continue to dump snow across the region.

Castorland, located in northern New York, saw the most snow at 65.9 inches, about 5.5 feet.

Meanwhile, Erie, Pennsylvania, had one of the snowiest starts to the season on record, with 0.1 inches of snow through Thanksgiving. But 22.6 inches of snow fell on Friday, setting a new all-time calendar day snow record, according to the Weather Channel.

The photos below show the huge amounts of snow that fell in the region – and the people digging their way out.
