Pitt RB Desmond Reid will miss the GameAbove Sports Bowl

Desmond Reid has been one of the best playmakers in college football this season and he will have one last chance to show it this season.

Reid will play in the GameAbove Sports Bowl against Toledo, a source said Pittsburgh Sports Now. This is a big boost for an offense that is without Eli Holstein. Reid missed the regular-season finale against Toledo, but bounced back over the month off after the loss at Boston College.

With Reid out and Derrick Davis Jr. likely out, Juelz Goff faces some touches against the Rockets.

Reid was one of the most dynamic players in college football this season, amassing 797 rushing yards (5.3 yards per carry) and 564 receiving yards (12 yards per reception) in just 10 games. He has been the heartbeat of the Pitt offense this season.

His 150.9 all-purpose yards per game were sixth in all of college football, and he became the first player since San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey in 2015 to have at least 100 receiving yards and 50 rushing yards in three games. Reid has truly been the Panthers’ all-rounder this season

He’s a big returner for the Panthers next season, but the coaching staff will likely bring back another veteran from the transfer portal, which currently includes Reid, Derrick Davis Jr., Juelz Goff, Synkwan Smith and Ja’Kyrian Turner.

Pitt didn’t finish this season the way it wanted, losing five straight games, but there’s still a chance to come out strong against Toledo. The GameAbove Sports Bowl is the last chance to get on the field this season, and Reid will look to finish the season as strong as he started.

“(Desmond Reid) will be ready for a bowl game,” Narduzzi said after the season finale against Boston College.
