Player Ratings: AC Milan 6-1 Sassuolo

Player Ratings: AC Milan 6-1 Sassuolo

AC Milan defeated Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia, winning 6-1, which was a huge confidence boost for many players on the San Siro pitch. Below are the Rossoneri’s player ratings, some of which stand out.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out how we decide on player ratings. From the scale to the impact on the rating, we have put everything together there.

Starting XI

Sportiello (6): In terms of blocking shots, he wasn’t used that often and showed good skills on the ball. He still gets a pass here, but he perhaps could have avoided the rebound that saw Sassuolo score the offside goal.

Calabria (6.5): Compared to Slovan’s performance, which was really bad from him, this one was much better as he actually contributed well in both phases of the game. This was evident on goal when he made the most of a rebound. Defensively there wasn’t much to complain about either, but this goal will certainly give him a confidence boost.

Tomori (5.5): He is the only player who doesn’t receive a pass here, simply because his positioning was questionable on several occasions, especially at the goal as he lost his man. He also made a serious mistake that would have resulted in a 9/10 goal, but was saved by his colleague Pavlovic.

Pavlovic (7): The Serb started well with many good interceptions and tackles in the first half, which continued in the second half. Above all, he saved his colleague Tomori with a fantastic tackle at the last moment to save Milan from conceding a certain goal. One of his best games with the red and black jersey, but still a bit hasty at times.

Terracchiano (6): Since he could have scored the goal better, he was able to narrowly avoid a 5.5. It was a very good pass for Abraham in the build-up to the third goal, and he also finished the game well as a midfielder. You can see why Fonseca likes his movement and understanding when Milan are in possession, that’s for sure.

Fofana (6): Some dangerous passes from the back, some going Milan’s way and some not, but overall good passing from the Frenchman. Overall a decent performance and he was also substituted at half time. He can still work on reducing the danger of the passes (through his positioning at certain moments).

Reijnders (8 – MOTM): It was an incredible pass for Chukwueze’s opener that showed world-class vision and execution, and the goal to make it 2-0 was simply wonderful in every way. The form he is currently in is amazing and could (hopefully) be decisive against Atalanta too.

Chukwueze (7): On the first goal he was admittedly a bit lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it, when the first shot hit the post, but the second goal was well taken. Even though the final result in the 1v1 games could have been better, he scored two goals and that counts for a lot. He also had a few nice set pieces, but more success in 1v1 would have been needed for a higher rating.

Loftus Cheek (6.5): Powerful forward runs and a fantastic assist for Leao after one of the above. He also had a couple of good attempts, a left-footed shot and a header that almost went into the net. In short, much better than what we’ve seen from him this season.

Leao (7): Lively from the start, he was instrumental in setting up Reijnders’ goal and then scored himself with a powerful low shot at the near post. Given the game ahead, it was right to take him off at half-time.

Abraham (7): He combined well with his teammates, especially Leao, and got the assist for Chukwueze’s second goal. He then managed to score the goal himself with a clever finish from a tight angle.

Substitute

Torriani (N/A): Maybe he could have scored better, but it was a low shot with good power. However, apart from a late offside save, we didn’t see enough to rate him.

Musah (6): He did well in the “Fofana role” with some good movement and passing. Nothing spectacular of course, but definitely decent.

Pulisic (6): The winger played a key role in the fifth goal, the one from Calabria, as his cross/shot hit the inside post. After that, he continued to harmonize well with his attacking teammates. Given more time and opportunity, he probably would have received a higher rating.

Okafor (6): Okay, he worked well in the 1v1 games and managed to get a (simple) assist for Abraham. To be honest, it wasn’t a fantastic pass, but the Englishman made good use of his attempt.

Bartesaghi (N/A): We haven’t seen enough to give it a rating.
