Full player ratings below:

Thibaut Courtois – 7.5: A few big saves to keep Madrid in the competition are rarely to blame after a defeat.

Fede Valverde – 6: Did his job as a right-back, but the crossing was poor and didn’t add any extra quality in the final third.

Raul Asencio – 7: Once again he showed his character and personality – no distortions of the stage or the moment. He battled hard with Darwin Nunez and managed an early clearance at the goal line early in the game.

Antonio Rüdiger – 6 Six defensive attempts and one blocked shot – the defense wasn’t to blame that evening, even if it didn’t manage to break out of its deep block.

Ferland Mendy – 5.5: The defense was perfect against Salah, but world-class players only needed a moment and the Egyptian lured Mendy into a tackle in the penalty area. Ancelotti replaced the player immediately afterwards.

Eduardo Camavinga – 8: Devastating news as it looks like the Frenchman will be out with another injury. Was one of Madrid’s best players that evening. Broke through the lines with his dribbling and showed a wide range of passes. Won almost all of his 50/50 ground duels, completed 2/2 dribbles and 2/2 long balls.

Luka Modric – 6: Some crucial interceptions in the first half, but his influence and energy waned in the second half.

Bellingham-6: Beat Gravenberch several times, especially in the first half. I felt that his freedom was more restricted and that he was given more defensive instructions at night. His touches under pressure were among the best on both sides, but he needed to see more of the ball.

Arda Güler – 4.5: The teenager struggled on the biggest stage as his lack of physicality was put under the spotlight.

Brahim – 6.5: Excellent dribbling and technique while on the ball, but his role in the team wasn’t clear and he didn’t see enough of the ball to make a significant difference in the game.

Kylian Mbappe – 2: Shockingly poor. Was that worse than the Clasico? The focus was on Mbappe with Vinicius Junior out, and the Frenchman seemed nowhere near the level required to play for this club. His complete lack of effort is unacceptable. Crowned the performance with a missed penalty that could have turned the game around.

Substitutions:

Lucas Vazquez – 7: Drawn the penalty that Mbappe failed to convert.

Dani Ceballos – 7: Should he have started the game? Some good tackles in midfield, 18/18 passes and the change of play that led to Lucas’ penalty.

Fran Garcia – 6.5: Some well-timed interceptions and good 1v1 defense against Salah.

Endrick – N/A: Late substitution – ran onto the pitch and constantly fouled Liverpool players.
