Poffenbarger, McDaniel Key No. 7 Terps’ comeback win at Purdue, 78-69

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – No. 7 Maryland women’s basketball overcame a 16-point first-half deficit to beat Purdue 78-69 in the conference opener Saturday at Mackey Arena. The Terps moved to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play, their best undefeated streak to start a season since starting the 2018-19 season 12-0.

Maryland trailed by 16 (31-15) with 5:41 left in the second quarter. It then cut the line Nine in the half (38-29) before taking his first lead of the game (48-46) with a pull-up jumper at 2:04 Bri McDaniel That capped an 8-0 run in the third quarter. Christina Dalce also counted a Double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Kaylene smiles contributed 13 points while five Terps scored in double figures.

Maryland held one 39-30 advantage on the glass, continuing his streak of having a lead in rebounds in every game this season. The Terps dominated the offensive boards with a 16-6 margin in that category.

Purdue (4-5, 0-1 Big Ten) was led by Rashunda Jones’ 17 points.

“Conference play in the best league in the country,” head coach Brenda Frese said. Anyone can beat anyone on any given night. … I will never take an away win for granted, especially not with our start. … I thought Bri set the tone for us in the third quarter.”
