Police close street near Trump Tower on the Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – One person is dead and seven others were injured after a car exploded near the Trump International Hotel Wednesday morning.

According to police, the explosion occurred around 8:40 a.m. in the valet parking area of ​​the hotel. Police operations have closed Fashion Show Drive between Las Vegas Boulevard and Sammy Davis Jr. Drive.

Bystander video obtained by FOX5 suggests there may have been fireworks in the car at the time of the explosion. It remains unclear whether additional explosive devices were present.

On Wednesday morning, a cybertruck caught fire in the valet parking of the Trump International Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

The fire has since been extinguished by Clark County firefighters.

During a press conference, LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the only victim was in the vehicle during the explosion.

Guests staying at the property and surrounding hotels told FOX5 they could hear a large explosion that was significantly louder than last night’s fireworks. FOX5 also obtained viewer video showing massive clouds of smoke billowing from the hotel’s entrance.

Guests staying at the hotel said they were not allowed to leave the lobby while the fire was active, but have since been escorted outside.

Gov. Joe Lombardo said he is working to provide local law enforcement with all the resources needed to respond.

Eric Trump, son of President-elect Donald Trump, expressed gratitude for local law enforcement’s response to the fire in a post on X.

The public is advised to avoid the area during the investigation.
