Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch forces Internal Affairs Chief Miguel Iglesias out of office in the wake of the explosive NYPD sex overtime scandal

The head of the NYPD’s internal affairs division was forced out of his position Saturday amid troubling sexual abuse allegations against former department chief Jeffrey Maddrey.

Chief Miguel Iglesias, meanwhile, will be replaced by Edward A. Thompson, a 38-year veteran of the department, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a post on X.

The shakeup came after the NYPD launched a department-wide personnel review on Saturday after the Post reported damning allegations that Maddrey demanded sexual favors from a subordinate in exchange for incredible overtime pay.

A source told the Post that the decision to remove Iglesias came after department officials began investigating how the Department of Internal Affairs handled the Maddrey case.

“Today, the head of the Department of Internal Affairs, Miguel Igelesias, was relieved of his command and informed the ministry of his intention to retire,” Tisch wrote to Eradicate Corruption in All Its Forms. It is an essential function that is vital to maintaining the honor and nobility of the profession and maintaining public trust.”
