Popular TV news reporter announces departure from CT station

CONNECTICUT – Ayah Galal, Hartford bureau chief for WFSB-TV, announced this week that she is leaving the Hartford-based station at the end of the month after six years.

“It was an absolute honor and a dream come true to be a reporter in my home state of Connecticut,” Galal wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for trusting me to tell your stories.”

Galal, who graduated from Quinnipiac University, joined Channel 3 Eyewitness News in 2018 as a reporter and was promoted to Hartford bureau chief, where she covers all aspects of the city.

Before appearing in front of the camera, Galal was a producer at WFSB and before that at WTNH-TV in New Haven.

“I have learned so much on this journey and am grateful to have met so many wonderful people over the years,” she wrote. “You opened up and shared your stories with me outside the courthouse, on Main Street, in grocery store parking lots and beyond.”

Galal’s Facebook post was flooded with congratulations, including from WFSB anchor Stephanie Simoni.

“You are a bright light in the newsroom,” Simoni wrote. “It’s lucky to have worked with you in two different places! We will miss you here. I know good things are coming your way!”

At Quinnipiac, Galal double majored in journalism and political science and is currently a board member of the CT Society of Professional Journalists. Additionally, she has won an Alumni Association Academic Achievement Award.

Galal didn’t announce her next move, but said she’s looking forward to it.

“I’m ready for a new chapter,” she wrote. “Stay tuned for what comes next.”
