BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – The WLOX First Alert Weather Team is monitoring two storm systems that will create an unsettled weather pattern this weekend. The first of the two storm systems will hit the region on Friday. This could bring a few isolated showers or thunderstorms to southern Mississippi Friday morning and Friday afternoon. However, Saturday’s second storm system will bring a better chance for heavy rain and storms across six southern counties.

With the first storm system expected to move well north of the area on Friday, there is no prospect of a washout on Friday. Most sources of heavy rain and storms will be north of the area. However, if a storm does form, it can be strong to severe.

The second, stronger storm system will hit the region Saturday evening. A line of storms is expected to form over Louisiana and move into north and central Mississippi by early afternoon.

Due to the northerly orientation of the storm system, the best conditions for severe weather lie north of the six southern counties of southern Mississippi. However, as the line moves across the state into southern Mississippi, a few strong to severe storms with isolated damaging wind gusts and a few spin-up tornadoes are possible.

Conditions are expected to clear on Sunday morning.
