PREMATCH REPORT: Oilers at Ducks

ANAHEIM, CA – The Edmonton Oilers complete their back-to-back road games in California against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Sunday afternoon, looking to rebound from a 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings just 24 hours earlier.

The Oilers have used their last seven meetings with the Ducks to match their longest active winning streak (Pittsburgh) against any other NHL opponent, with Connor McDavid scoring 17 points (5G, 12A) in a concurrent seven-game point streak against… . Anaheim.

Edmonton’s captain has three goals and 16 assists in his current 10-game point streak, which was extended Saturday against Los Angeles, after recording an assist in his team’s OT loss to their Pacific Division rival. It’s McDavid’s 16th double-digit points streak of his career, breaking a tie with Guy Lafleur for second-best of all time.

Los Angeles was led by former Oilers forward Warren Foegele, who had a goal and two assists against his former club, and Quinton Byfield scored two goals – including the game-winner in overtime – to help LA edge Edmonton into second to overtake place in the Pacific Division.

“I feel like we came out in the second round and played really well and had to puck in their zone a lot,” Viktor Arvidsson said. “We kind of took our foot off the gas pedal in the third period and gave them back on the gas, so I think we just have to keep our foot on the gas (like we did before the holiday break) and get the teams to defend.”
