Replays showed Jorgensen had very little contact but after a VAR review the decision stood.

Delap scored the penalty to make it 1-0 for Ipswich at Portman Road. Chelsea fans were buzzing on social media.

“How on earth is this a punishment? This is a huge fall from Delap,” someone said on X.

A second added: “There is actually no contact. I don’t understand.”

“This is never a punishment,” said a third.

A fourth added: “How did the VAR confirm this as a penalty when there is no contact at all?” Ridiculous.”

Shortly afterwards, the Premier League Match Center explained why the penalty stood.

“The referee awarded a penalty for a foul by Jörgensen on Delap, which was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, which concluded there was sufficient contact for a penalty,” the statement said.

Chelsea thought they had equalized midway through the first half, but Joao Felix’s goal was disallowed for offside after a lengthy review.

Ipswich retained their 1-0 lead until half-time.
