President Biden pardons son Hunter Biden, daughter Ashley and more react

The reactions began shortly after the announcement Sunday evening that President Joe Biden had pardoned his son Hunter Biden on tax evasion and federal weapons charges.

President Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, posted her stories on Instagram: “Thanks Dad! What they wanted to do to my brother was cruel and politically motivated. Period. Proud sister + daughter!”

However, there was a less receptive response from Washington, DC

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, Republican of Kentucky, said President Biden “lied from start to finish” about the circumstances surrounding his son’s case.

In a statement on Sunday, he said: “Joe Biden lied from start to finish about his family’s corrupt influence activities. Not only did he falsely claim that he had never met with his son’s foreign business partners and that his son had done nothing wrong, but he also lied when he said he would not pardon Hunter Biden.”

“The charges Hunter faced were just the tip of the iceberg of the blatant corruption that President Biden and the Biden Crime Family lied to the American people about,” he added. “It is unfortunate that President Biden and his family continue to do everything they can to evade responsibility instead of disclosing their decades of misconduct.”

And Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan wrote on X: “Democrats said there was no truth to our impeachment inquiry. If that’s the case, then why did Joe Biden pardon Hunter Biden for the very things we asked about?”

Steven Cheung, President-elect Donald Trump’s spokesman, responded indirectly, issuing a statement to ABC News saying the circumstances showed the Justice Department had weaponized the justice system – and adding that Trump intended to fix this during his second term in the White House.

“The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democratic-controlled Justice Department and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system,” the statement said.

“This justice system must be repaired and due process restored for all Americans, and that is exactly what President Trump will do when he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people,” it continued.

Democratic House Rep. Greg Stanton of Arizona said in a post on X that he disagrees with President Biden’s decision to pardon Hunter Biden.

He wrote: “I respect President Biden, but I think he got this wrong.”

“This was not a politically motivated prosecution. “Hunter committed crimes and was convicted by a jury of his peers,” Stanton added.

Spokespeople for Special Counsel David Weiss and Attorney General Merrick Garland had no immediate response to Hunter Biden’s pardon when reached by ABC News on Sunday.
