A good week got even better for the PSG manager Luis Enrique as they beat Lyon 3-1 at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, handing Les Gones just their second defeat in 15 games.

The win was made all the more gratifying by the fact that the entire rest of the top eight failed to win at the weekend, allowing PSG to gain another lead clear above.

As they play their 16th league game two weeks before the rest, they also have the chance to finish 2024 10 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, where they remain unbeaten this season.

PSG will also be favorites considering they are still unbeaten in 31 away games in Ligue 1 and suffered their last defeat here at Stade Louis II in the 2022/23 season.

Things weren’t going so well for Enrique in the Champions League, but last midweek he saw his team secure a decisive win away to Red Bull Salzburg and win 3-0 in Austria.

Another win would ensure PSG’s place in the knockout rounds, but with Manchester City and Stuttgart in their final two games, that’s not a certainty.

Enrique also has a difficult week ahead, as the trip to Monaco comes just days before the trip to Lens, where the fifth round of the Coupe de France will take place.

Monaco have proven to be difficult opponents for most teams in France and on the continent this season, with just one defeat in 14 home games, and they have enjoyed their clashes with PSG here of late.

A 0-0 draw in March came after Monaco beat PSG three times in a row at the Stade Louis II, scoring nine goals.

It wasn’t the best week for Adi HutterHowever, England’s men lost 3-0 at Arsenal in the Champions League and were unable to capitalize on the points dropped by the teams around them over the weekend.

When Monaco played in the late stages on Saturday, Marseille and Lille had already drawn that day, but they had to settle for a goalless draw in Reims.

That means they were in the top four, with Monaco still level on points with OM and three points ahead of Lille, but having widened the gap to Lyon to five points after the defeat at PSG.

Team news

As well Vanderson will return as a right-back for Monaco after a suspension, Jordan Teze will now miss the game because he received too many warnings.

Folarin Balogun suffered a recurrence of his shoulder injury in the last week or so and is not expected to play, but Breel Embolo was also dropped from the starting eleven at the weekend and Hutter switched to a five-man system.

This was a rare start Kassoum Ouattara at full-back, but after failing to beat Reims, the coach could return to the more familiar 4-2-3-1 system that has served them well this season.

All eyes will be on PSG Desire Doue After another excellent performance from him against Lyon, he got a rare start, assisting the first goal and then converting the penalty for the second goal.

Marquinhos was dropped Lucas Beraldopossibly with this game in mind, but Randal Kolo Muani was completely removed from the squad and is due to move in January.

Lucas Hernández And Senny Mayulu Both have returned from recent setbacks in the last week, meaning there are no injury concerns for the visitors Presnel KimpembeEnrique’s continued absence was a decision made by Enrique.

Monaco’s possible starting lineup:
Majecki; Vanderson, Kehrer, Singo, Caio Henrique; Magassa, Camara; Akliouche, Golovin, Ben Seghir; Embolo

Possible Paris Saint-Germain starting lineup:
Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Lee, Dembele, Doue

We say: Monaco – Paris Saint-Germain 1:1

With Monaco having the chance to close the gap on PSG to four points, this is a blockbuster game to end 2024 in Ligue 1.

However, it could be a dangerous clash, like the clash here in March, with PSG trying to remain unbeaten away from home in the league for a full calendar year.
