A look at the Week 16 game between the Jets and Rams at MetLife Stadium:

Rams RB Kyren Williams vs. Jets front seven

The Jets run defense, which has been leaky at times this season, will be put to a major test.

Williams has rushed for 1,121 yards and 12 touchdowns on 280 carries this season.

He is second in the NFL in rushing yards, behind only Saquon Barkley.

The Jets rank 16th in the NFL against the run and have played better in recent weeks than they did early in the season, despite giving up 136 rushing yards to the Jaguars last week.

The Jets may also be without star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who is questionable with a hamstring injury.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Williams presents a challenge because of his skill level and Rams coach Sean McVay’s game plan.

“There’s a pure personnel and a player, and he’s explosive, and he’s fast, he’s got great vision, he’s a hard tackle, all those things, so that’s the first part of it,” Ulbrich said. “The second part of it is the coach and the scheme we have to defend and that is extremely difficult. He does an excellent job of mirroring everything. The run, the pass, the goalies, the perimeter, all of it.

“Everything looks so sensible, and the best offenses in the league are built that way, you know, and a lot of it is the fight, because a lot of times you get a play pass and you think it’s a…” Run, it’s a play pass and it’s a big part of their success as far as the running game goes, so we’re going to have our hands full.”

Costello’s call

The Jets’ offense has looked much better the last two weeks, but I think the cold weather will slow them down a bit on Sunday.

The Rams can run the ball, and that has been a problem for the Jets since Week 1.

The Rams are fighting for a spot in the playoffs. The jets dream of the beach.

Arctic Blast: Baby, it’s cold outside.

The Jets and Rams will play one of the coldest games in recent history at MetLife Stadium, with temperatures expected to top out at around 25 degrees.

Add some wind chill and it gets cold.

The Rams come from sunny Southern California, where it’s around 70 degrees, so you’d think this would be quite a shock to their bodies.

Rams coach Sean McVay joked about preparing for the freezing temperatures.

“Do you have any ideas? Maybe we can put a chiller here, do a cold dive or something like that,” McVay said. “I think when the guys come out, obviously the ball handling is a little bit different just because of the temperature, but they do a great job of staying warm between series and then when you’re outside, usually too.” about yourself.

“They have to play along too, and we will deal with it as best we can.”

Adams’ encore: Davante Adams shined in the second half against the Jaguars last week with nine catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns. What can he do this week?

The Rams defense is better than the Jaguars, who have the worst pass defense in the league, but Adams and Aaron Rodgers have clicked.

Adams has nine catches and rushed for over 100 yards in each of the last two weeks, his first time since joining the Jets in October.

The Rams could focus on stopping Adams, which should open up opportunities for Garrett Wilson.

Dynamic Duo: Although the Jets will throw Adams and Wilson against the Rams, Los Angeles has an excellent pair of receivers in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.

They’ll test the Jets’ secondary, which is the healthiest it’s been in weeks with both Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed starting at cornerback.

Kupp has 63 catches for 657 yards and six touchdowns.

Nacua has 61 catches for 805 yards and three touchdowns. McVay will find ways to get these two open as the game progresses.

Let the sauce simmer: After some problems at the start of the season, Gardner has recently come on as a substitute and has been playing some good football.

He was tough in his last two games against the Seahawks and Jaguars.

He missed the Dolphins game with a hamstring injury.

“The last two games were, in my opinion, the best two games of the season for him,” interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said. “I’ve just seen a renewed spirit and focus and it’s the sauce we all love in terms of the way he’s prepared and that’s led to two really back-to-back games so I’ve just got to keep going .”
