A look at Sunday’s Week 17 game between the Jets and Bills in Orchard Park, NY:

Bills QB Josh Allen vs. Jets defense

The big debate right now is whether Allen or Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson deserves the MVP award this season.

The Jets will get an up-close look at Allen as he looks to strengthen his candidacy against them.

Allen struggled at times against the Jets, with 14 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 12 games.

Nevertheless, he beat them in eight out of twelve meetings.

The Jets’ defensive players know Allen has his sights set on the MVP and believe he could give them some opportunities if he throws an interception.

Several Jets discussed this week that Allen has a $1.5 million bonus in his contract if he wins MVP and thought he could take some risks in this game.

Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Allen has improved his game.

“I feel like he’s just improved in everything he does,” Ulbrich said. “He’s improved in his ability to read the field, really understand coverage and get the ball where it needs to go, and that’s a dangerous thing because that’s a guy who can blow you away with his ability can beat so many ways.” With his legs, with his off-the-clock stuff, with his, he’s just a real competitor, the ultimate winner, and he’s a tough defense because even if you do everything right, he can still beat you hit.”

Costello’s call

The Jets played a close game against the Bills in October, and I think that will happen again on Sunday.

The sloppy conditions slowed Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense and the Jets held on before the Bills pulled through in the fourth quarter.

Four defeats

Garrett Wilson Bill Kostroun/New York Post

Wilson watch: Garrett Wilson didn’t hide his frustration after last week’s loss to the Rams.

Wilson was targeted only three times in the first 55 minutes of that game and was vocal about his dissatisfaction afterward.

It appears to be a very delicate situation for the Jets as Wilson is eligible for a new contract after this season.

Will he ask for a trade? Will the new regime consider transferring him?

It’s hard to believe the 24-year-old star receiver has gotten this far, but here we are.

The Jets said this week that they want to get him more involved.

“We have to find ways to get Garrett the ball more often,” said interim coach Jeff Ulbrich. “He is one of the best players on our team, if not one of the best players in this league, especially at his position. So the move up has taken him over from Garrett from a coverage standpoint for a lot of different reasons, but at the same time, we definitely have to find ways to get him the ball.”

Milestones: While the Jets are out of a playoff spot, some of their players still have individual statistical milestones within reach.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers could become the fifth player in NFL history to throw 500 touchdown passes with one more throw.

Rodgers also has his sights set on the Jets’ single-season passing yards record.

He needs 497 yards in the final two games to surpass Joe Namath’s mark of 4,007 yards set in 1967, although in three games more than Namath.

Davante Adams Bill Kostroun/New York Post

Wilson is 13 yards away from 1,000 yards this season, which would give him 1,000-yard seasons in the first three years of his career.

Meanwhile, fellow wide receiver Davante Adams needs 72 yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth consecutive year.

Disaster in the division: The Jets finish the season with two more division games.

They’ve only won one all season, their Week 3 victory over the Patriots, when hopes were still high.

They have been terrible in the AFC East for a long time.

The Jets are 5-23 in division games since 2020.

They have beaten the Bills twice, the Patriots twice and the Dolphins once in that span.

Former coach Robert Saleh talked about closing the gap on the Bills, but it feels bigger than ever.

Buffalo is 23-5 in the division since 2020.

Off and go: The Jets have had a terrible running game this season.

They rank 31st in rushing yards, 32nd in attempts and 30th in rushing touchdowns.

Last week they only had 19 runs scored against the Rams in a close game.

Breece Hall had no games with 20 rushing attempts this season.

Can the Jets get the running game going this week?

Well, it’s supposed to be a windy, rainy day here and the Jets should rely on the running game.

Hall’s best game this season came in the first meeting with the Bills (18 carries, 113 yards).

If not now, when?
