Tre Wisner was a revelation for Texas.

The second-year running back has taken over as the Longhorns’ top ball carrier following a season-ending injury to CJ Baxter and issues with Jaydon Blue.

And it’s hard to imagine that things would go better for him and the team.

In the last two games for the Longhorns, Wisner has rushed for a total of 344 yards prior to the SEC championship game against Georgia.

That stretch included 186 yards on the ground, or 5.6 yards per carry, against a stout Texas A&M defense that allowed just 3.9 yards per attempt.

A week earlier against Kentucky, Wisner ran for 6.1 yards per carry.

His play earned him high praise from Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian ahead of Saturday’s big game. Texas is a slight favorite for this matchup in Atlanta.

“About a month ago we challenged our guys to the running game,” Sarkisian said. “We knew we would need it to get where we wanted to go. And boy, did they respond. Tre Wisner was just an absolute warrior for us.”

Oddsmakers aren’t quite sure whether Wisner’s great success at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium will last.

Wisner’s rushing yards over/under are estimated at 86.5 yards at FanDuel Sportsbook, which is barely half of the average he has averaged in the last two games since becoming Texas’ No. 1 RB.

Now the Bulldogs’ defense won’t be as flexible as the previous two that Wisner dominated.

But just reaching 100 yards, with virtually no competition in the backfield and the confidence of the coach, should make that an achievable mark.
