After a three-year gap, Allu Arjun’s much-awaited sequel to Pushpa: The Rise titled Pushpa 2: The Rule has finally hit the screens. Directed by Sukumar, this action-packed, emotional drama creates high expectations and fans are celebrating its release with great excitement. Here is our review of Pushpa 2. Read on to find out if it lives up to the hype.

Story:

Pushpa (Allu Arjun) grows from a small-time worker to a syndicate member and finally an owner and becomes a powerful smuggler. But his ongoing feud with SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) intensifies. Meanwhile, Pushpa has plans to make MP Siddhappa (Rao Ramesh) the CM using his unique strategies to hold the reins. He also boldly challenges Shekhawat and vows to smuggle red sandalwood out of the country undetected. Meanwhile, Pushpa’s elder brother’s family gets into trouble. What is the crisis? Will Pushpa be involved? And why does he want Siddhappa as CM? All of these questions arise as the story progresses.

Pros:

Allu Arjun’s performance in Pushpa 2 is absolutely flawless. He delves deeper into his character than in the first part and delivers a performance full of passion and authenticity. In key emotional scenes and action sequences, his acting reaches remarkable heights, leaving the audience in awe and thinking, “Did I just witness that?” His performance adds incredible depth to the film.

Director Sukumar has obviously put in a lot of effort to craft Allu Arjun’s character with care and precision. Both Sukumar and Allu Arjun have put their heart and soul into making this sequel an enjoyable cinematic experience.

Rashmika Mandanna also delivers a solid performance, which shines with her emotional dialogues, especially in the second half. She captures the intensity of the emotional moments perfectly.

Fahadh Faasil, this time with a more expansive role, brings new intensity to his role as a relentless, psychotic cop determined to bring down Pushpa’s empire. His interactions with Allu Arjun are intense and compelling and showcase his remarkable acting skills.

The action sequences are expertly choreographed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The Jathara sequence and the climactic fight in particular are spectacular. The action directors clearly understand what resonates with mass audiences, and their efforts are evident in every thrilling moment.

Another highlight is the background music, which enhances the effect of important scenes. The music during the Jathara sequence in particular leaves a lasting impression on the audience.

The other performances of actors like Tarak Ponnappa, Jagapathi Babu, Rao Ramesh, Ajay and Brahmaji, all of whom play their roles within their limitations, are also commendable.

Minus points:

For those looking for a strong plot, Pushpa 2 might feel like it’s lacking. The film relies heavily on counter-scenes and in the second half the story unexpectedly shifts to a family angle, making one wonder about Pushpa’s wider ambitions and empire.

While the writing is decent, it lacks depth, especially in the first half. Some scenes feel like filler but are somewhat overlooked due to their placement between more intense moments. Some dialogues are not up to date.

Compared to the first part, the songs of this sequel are less captivating on screen, with the exception of “Sooseki” which is a powerful, romantic yet emotional track. “Kissik” doesn’t quite live up to expectations, especially those hoping for a big hit. However, Sreeleela impresses with her moves. The cliffhanger also seems a bit disappointing as the audience is expecting a stronger lead-up to “Pushpa 3”.

Technical aspects:

Sukumar is based on a simple plot and focuses more on individual scenes rather than crafting a compelling narrative. The script could have been a little faster in the first half to make a stronger impact.

On the technical side, Devi Sri Prasad’s background score is fantastic and Sam CS also does a great job. Mirosław Kuba Brożek’s camerawork is impressive, especially in the way he captures the action sequences.

Editor Navin Nooli does a good job, although cutting some scenes in the first half could have improved the running time. The production values are good, with noticeable effort from the producers in all departments.

Verdict:

Overall, “Pushpa 2: The Rule” lives up to expectations. Allu Arjun’s performance, be it emotional or action packed, is exceptional. Fahadh Faasil brings his unique style and intensity to the role while Rashmika Mandanna also does justice to her character. Although the film has some flaws, such as unnecessary scenes in the first half and the lack of a strong plot, the running time is not a problem. Compared to the first part, Pushpa 2 raises the bar. Don’t wait any longer and book your tickets to experience this intense, action-packed drama that is worth watching this weekend.
