QB Teddy Bridgewater plans to return to the NFL after coaching his alma mater to a state championship

After enjoying the pleasure of leading his alma mater to high school state glory as a coach, Teddy Bridgewater is looking to revive his playing career.

Bridgewater, who coached Miami (Fla.) Northwestern to a state championship on Saturday, told NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero that he plans to return to the NFL.

“That’s the plan,” Bridgewater said on Tuesday’s edition of The Insiders. “My team knows that’s the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then the coach goes back to the league, sees what happens, and then comes back in February in the offseason and continues to coach high school football. We’ll see how it goes.”

When Pelissero asked if he was in contact with a specific team or knew more details, Bridgewater smiled and showed the camera his state medal.

“Right now I’m enjoying this state championship,” he said.

Bridgewater, a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft, retired last year after one season with the Detroit Lions. He also had stints with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins during his career.

He quickly took over at Miami Northwestern and coached the team to a 12-2 record that season. Bridgewater’s first season ended with a 41-0 victory over Raines on Saturday in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Division 3A title game.

The 32-year-old could add some veteran presence to a team struggling with injuries or uncertainty in the QB room. In his NFL career (so far), he has played in 79 games with 65 starts and has a record of 33-32, throwing for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.

“We’ll see how the next week and a half, two weeks go, whether we maybe sign with a team or something like that,” Bridgewater said. “And then I’ll be coaching high school football again in February. So, we’ll see.”
