Travis Head has often been a bane for India and getting him out at a cheap price will be crucial to India’s hopes of winning the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Head has already smashed two centuries (152 and 140 respectively) in the second and third Tests, tormenting the Indian bowlers at will and also adapting to his weaknesses. In a video shared on social media showing the left-hander batting in the nets, Head appears to be working on his weak areas again and recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin has pointed out exactly this.

In the video, Head can be seen hitting his stumps to meet the deliveries thrown at him. This could be a ploy to compensate for Head’s vulnerability by throwing balls off the wicket towards his off-stump area.

So far in the series, Head has succumbed to deliveries around the wicket, with both Harshit Rana and Jasprit Bumrah managing to get him out in this manner.

Ashwin quickly guessed what Head was trying to practice.

“Omg (Oh my God)! Can he reach the off-stump? Is this the trick to get around the stumps?” Ashwin responded to the video.

Head is by far the top run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. He has scored 409 runs in just three Tests and is 174 runs ahead of the second highest run-scorer, KL Rahul.

The left-hander demonstrated his supreme ability to work around his weaknesses by skillfully dealing with weak points outside off-stump and short-pitch bowling en route to 152 in the third Test.

Meanwhile, Ashwin’s reaction showed that he was clearly following the proceedings despite ending his international career midway through the series. Ashwin, who played the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, retired from international cricket after the third Test with 537 Test wickets.
