Raheem Morris asked if he should bench Kirk Cousins

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris is in no rush to bench Kirk Cousins after the quarterback threw four interceptions in Sunday’s 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Morris was asked if he would consider a quarterback change, but didn’t seem particularly interested in making a move. However, it’s hard to ignore that possibility considering Cousins has thrown six interceptions without a touchdown over the past three weeks.

“We have no problems with that,” Morris said after the game. “I don’t think that’s going to be a problem here … there’s no better guy than 18 to play (quarterback) for us.”

Morris praised Cousins for what he did to get the team into the playoffs and give them a realistic chance of hosting a postseason game. And even after a three-game losing streak, the Falcons are still atop the NFC South and have everything ahead of them.

“This guy carried us all season,” Morris said. “He’s done a great job and it’s hard to throw the guy under the bus…we’ll bounce back, we’ll get him back and we’ll be ready to go.”

Morris also said that at no point in the game did he consider trading rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and that the team would move forward with Cousins.

“I have no doubt he will bounce back and be ready to play, especially against his former team.”

It will be interesting to see how Cousins performs against the Minnesota Vikings in the stadium where he spent the last six seasons of his career.

While Morris remains loyal to his quarterback for now, he has one simple request.

“Don’t turn the ball over. It’s really easy.”
