Rain is on the way – news, weather, sports from Boston

After a fresh snow flurry early yesterday morning, daily highs of over 40 degrees ensured the snow melted and we ended a quiet weekend. Where the previous storms had dropped some snow, melting snow re-frozen overnight, so icy spots on the driveway/sidewalk are possible starting early this morning.

The sun is starting to shine today, but it won’t be long before the clouds move in. Rain will occur in Worcester County between 2 and 3 p.m. and further east between 3 and 5 p.m. A short mix of snow/ice is also possible near/north of Route 2, northwest of 495, so some slippery patches may form there. In this way, a winter weather warning is actually issued. Rain will be steady this evening, with about 0.25 to 0.50 inches falling.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy and cool with highs between 30 and 40 degrees. A patchy drizzle/shower is possible, but we will also see plenty of dry spells.

Gusty winds and pouring rain will move through from Wednesday to Wednesday night. This will be a drought period with 1.5 to 3.0 inches of rain expected to fall. We are paying attention to areas of street flooding/poor drainage. Floods are areas where heavy downpours occur.

Dry, windy and colder air returns on Thursday and will persist into the weekend.
