Rainbow Warriors complete 2024 season; 23 seniors honored at senior night

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i football team will conclude the 2024 season with a game between the Mountain West and New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 30. Kick-off is at 6pm at the Clarence TC Ching Complex. The Rainbow Warriors (4-7, 2-4 MW) will honor 23 seniors during the traditional Senior Night ceremony following the game. The Lobos (5-6, 4-3) will aim for bowl eligibility with a win.

Game day promotion:
An evening to say “Aloha and Mahalo” to the Class of 2024 for “Senior Night,” sponsored by First Hawaiian Bank. All fans are asked to come together in their favorite Aloha attire to show the love and appreciation of the islands to all seniors. A lei making station will be provided for keiki and fans to create custom lei wreaths for the seniors.

GAME STORIES

  • Following the game, a total of 23 seniors will participate in the traditional senior night ceremony, including six-year seniors WR Spencer CurtisL.B Nalu Emerson And Jonah Panoke and seven-year-old LB Logan Taylor and DL Elijah Robinson. Emerson and Panoke spent all six seasons in Manoa.
  • Hawaii has won its last six Senior Night games and 11 of its last 12. During its six-game winning streak, four of the games were decided by a score, including the last three (50-45 vs. CSU, 2021; 31). -25 vs. UNLV, 2022; 27-24 vs. CSU, 2023).
  • UH leads the overall series with New Mexico 16-11, including a 12-6 edge in games in Honolulu.
  • Hawai’i won the last meeting in Honolulu on November 7, 2020 at Aloha Stadium 39-33, ending a four-game home losing streak in the series. The Warriors erased a 20-7 deficit in the second quarter and totaled 503 yards of offense with four scoring plays of 40 yards or more.
  • Since UH joined the Mountain West in 2012, the teams have met six times, with UNM holding a slight 4-2 advantage.
  • Both teams were idle last week.
  • Under head coach Timmy ChangUH is 0-4 after bye weeks, including 0-2 this season. Hawaii, which had one bye week each of the last two seasons, had three bye weeks this season (Weeks 2, 5, 13).
  • UH (4-7, 2-4 MW) last played two weeks ago at Utah State in Logan, Utah, losing 55-10. The Warriors threw five interceptions and were sacked seven times in the loss.
  • UNM (5-6, 4-3) defeated No. 18 Washington State 38-35 two weeks ago in Albuquerque, N.M., keeping its bowl chances alive. The last time the Lobos were bowl eligible was 2016.
  • This season marks the second straight year UH has been able to deny a team a chance at bowl eligibility in the final week of the regular season. Last year, Hawaii beat Colorado State 27-24 in Honolulu on a walk-off field goal.
  • UHs Brayden Schager has made 33 consecutive starts, which is a school record for a quarterback. If he doesn’t start on Saturday, real rookie Micah Alejado will likely get the nod to be the first freshman to start a game at QB since Schager in 2021 against Fresno State.
