Randy Moss confirmed he had been diagnosed with cancer after his son previously denied reports.

“Y’all know I’ve been telling you for the last few weeks that I’ve been struggling with something inside,” Moss, 47, said in a Friday, Dec. 13, Instagram Live video. “And your boy survived cancer.”

Moss shared that he had a stent inserted into his liver on Thanksgiving last month because waste was flowing into his urine.

“I actually had cancer, it was found in the bile duct right between the pancreas and the liver,” he explained. “The cancer was located just outside the bile duct.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Moss underwent a “six-hour surgery” that included a Whipple procedure – a surgery that removed the head of the pancreas, portions of the small intestine, the gallbladder and the bile duct. The retired NFL player shared that he was “in the hospital for six days” and was only released from the hospital on Friday.

The ESPN commentator, currently on leave due to his health issues, plans to continue chemotherapy and radiation but is feeling “fine” for now. Moss explained that he would not be answering any further questions about his condition, but wanted to check in on social media so his fans could see him as he recovers. Moss shared that he hopes for a speedy recovery and hopes to return to work soon.

“As soon as I’m healthy and able to go out with guys again, I’ll be on set. … Hopefully I can be with you soon,” Moss said. “My goal is to be on television again with my team.”

Moss also expressed gratitude for the well-wishes sent his way when he previously revealed he was battling an undisclosed health crisis.

“All the prayers, the good wishes, I really felt that, my family felt that,” he said.

In addition to raising cancer awareness and encouraging everyone to get their annual checkups, Moss is also raising money for cancer research through his new team Moss-Merch.

News of Moss’ cancer diagnosis comes just days after his son Thaddeus vehemently denied rumors that his father was battling cancer. It all started as a former NFL star Larry Fitzgerald‘s father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., posted via X on Tuesday, December 10, that Moss “has liver cancer” and sent him well wishes.

“Let’s show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this crisis 🙏🙏🙏,” Larry Sr. wrote. “I love you Randy.”

Thaddeus responded in a now-deleted post, writing: “This is disgusting. You do not have the right to attempt to make private matters public for the sake of commitment. I don’t think my dad is talking to you, so check your damn sources.”
