Randy Moss is taking an extended break from “NFL Countdown” due to health issues

Hall of Famer Randy Moss will take an extended leave of absence from ESPN’s “NFL Countdown” due to a personal health issue, the network announced.

“Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will be stepping away from ‘NFL Countdown’ for an extended period of time to focus on a personal health challenge,” ESPN said in a statement. “At the start of the show on December 1st, he briefly addressed the issue. For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, bringing his insight and passion to Countdown. He has ESPN’s full support and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

Moss’ exact diagnosis is unknown. Moss, 47, will not be replaced during the transition period. Last Sunday, Moss addressed his issues on “Countdown” while wearing sunglasses.

“I just wanted to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family are struggling with something internally,” Moss said. “I have some great doctors around me. I couldn’t miss the show. I wanted to be here with you. I feel great.

“But when you all see me with these Michigan turnover glasses that I have on, that’s no disrespect because I’m on TV, man. I’m fighting something. I need all the prayer warriors.”

Moss is considered one of the greatest receivers in NFL history. He is fourth all-time with 15,292 receiving yards in 14 seasons. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

He previously worked on both Sunday nights and Monday Night Countdown, but prior to last season limited this to just Sundays at his own request.
