Randy Moss’ son calls Larry Fitzgerald Sr. about announcing his father’s diagnosis

Pro Football Hall of Fame member Randy Moss has remained tight-lipped about what he initially described as an “internal condition” that has caused him to step away from his ESPN “Sunday NFL Countdown” to resign. That’s his right, of course, but Larry Fitzgerald Sr. obviously doesn’t care.

ESPN confirmed last week that Moss “will be taking an extended break from the network’s NFL pregame show to focus on a personal health challenge.”

While Moss and his employer took every step to keep his health concerns as private as possible, Fitzgerald Sr. decided to claim on social media that he “just heard” that Moss was battling liver cancer.

“At the 66th NFF Hall of Fame ceremony here in Las Vegas, I just learned that Vikings HOF Randy Moss has liver cancer. Let’s show the power of prayer and get Moss through this situation,” Fitzgerald Sr. wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I love you, Randy.”

Fitzgerald Sr. shared his post shortly before 9:40 p.m. ET on Tuesday claiming that Moss had liver cancer. The news naturally caused a stir across the platform, and Brett Favre decided to publish a thoughtful post about Moss’ diagnosis about two hours after Fitzgerald Sr.’s post.

Moss’ son, Thaddeus Moss, responded to Favre’s post, writing, “Brett, we really appreciate the support. That is not true. My father will address the world when he is ready.”

Thaddeus’ response to Favre was used as a community note under Fitzgerald Sr.’s post.

Thaddeus also responded to Fitzgerald Sr.’s original post and was angry about the situation, to say the least.

Due to the combination of the community note and the fact that Moss didn’t own Fitzgerald Sr.’s news to share with the world, people on X immediately called him out.
