Randy Moss’ son responds to ‘disgusting’ rumors about his father’s health

Randy Moss’ son Thaddeus refuted reports that his father had been diagnosed with liver cancer.

Larry Fitzgerald Sr., father of former Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald, and Brett Favre both tweeted Tuesday that the elder Moss had been diagnosed with the disease.

Randy recently stepped down from his ESPN duties on Sunday NFL Countdown for undisclosed health reasons.

“This is disgusting,” Thaddeus tweeted to Fitzgerald. Sr. “You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of commitment. I don’t think my dad is talking to you, so check your damn sources.”

Thaddeus wrote to Favre on X: “Brett, we really appreciate the support. That is not true. My father will speak to the world when he is ready.”

Many have been praying for and supporting Randy after he revealed on December 1 that he was “struggling with something inside.”

The NFL Hall of Famer did not provide any details, although the 47-year-old urged people to undergo blood tests and examinations.

“I just wanted to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family, we’re struggling with something internally,” Moss said during ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown.” “I have some great doctors around me. I couldn’t miss the show. I wanted to be here with you. I feel great.

“But when you all see me with these Michigan turnover glasses that I have on, that’s no disrespect because I’m on TV, man. I’m fighting something. I need all the prayer warriors.”

ESPN then announced last Friday that Moss would be “absent for an extended period of time to focus on a personal health issue.”

Fitzgerald Sr., who works as a reporter in the Minnesota area, announced Tuesday evening that Randy had been diagnosed with liver cancer.

“At the 66th NFF Hall of Fame Ceremony here in Las Vegas, I just learned that Vikings HOF Randy Moss has liver cancer. Let’s show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this situation. 🙏🙏🙏. I love you Randy,” he wrote at 9:39 a.m

His son, who was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 2024, reportedly told his father that it was wrong to share that information, but has since deleted the tweet.

“Dad, I think it’s best to respect his privacy on this matter,” Larry Jr. allegedly wrote via screenshot on X. “When he feels ready to reveal more about his health, he will. In the meantime, let’s focus on sending him positive energy, prayers and support instead of speculating.”

This news reached Favre, who was playing with Randy in Minnesota, and he originally posted on X: “I just heard the news that Randy Moss has liver cancer. Prayers to him and his family.🙏Randy remains one of the greats to ever run a route. Definitely at NFL WR Mt. Rushmore.”

But 16 minutes after Thaddeus tweeted it, he changed his message.

“Prayers to Randy Moss and his family.🙏,” Favre posted. “Randy remains one of the greats to ever run a route. Definitely at NFL WR Mt. Rushmore.”

Favre responded to Thaddeus’ tweet with a praying hands emoji, eliciting a “thank you” from the younger Moss.

Thaddeus, 26, spent time with the Bengals and Commanders during his career, although he never appeared in an NFL game after his stint at LSU. In May, he announced on X that he had retired.

His father was one of the NFL’s greatest receivers, a human highlight reeler who could score anytime, anywhere on the field. He scored 156 touchdowns in his 14-year career.
