Rapper OG Maco was hospitalized with a gunshot wound at his home in Los Angeles, California on Thursday morning. Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., 32, is undergoing surgery and according to TMZ, which reported the news of OG Maco being hospitalized, the incident looks like an apparent suicide attempt. However, the police are yet to confirm this.

According to Los Angeles police sources cited by TMZ, a neighbor called 911 when he heard a gun being fired inside a home. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were on scene around 10 a.m. local time. The report added that OG Maco was found unresponsive by officers and was immediately taken to a hospital and underwent surgery. Officers also found a firearm at the scene.

Although the extent of OG Maco’s injury is unclear at this point, his manager Poppa Percccc told TMZ Hip Hop that the 32-year-old did not die. However, his condition is critical and the manager called on all of OG Maco’s “friends, fans, supporters and employees” for urgent prayers.

OG Maco is originally from College Park, Georgia. He rose to prominence with his 2014 breakout single “U Guessed It,” which featured a remix with 2 Chainz and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

He is known for his mix of hip-hop and trap music and has collaborated with various artists over the years. He signed with Quality Control Music, the same label as Migos and Lil Yachty, and was inducted into XXL magazine’s 2015 Freshman Class.

In addition to his music career, OG Maco has faced several personal challenges, including a serious car accident in 2016 and a rare skin disease called necrotizing fasciitis in 2019.
