Ravens’ Lamar Jackson breaks Mike Vick’s record for career rushing yards by a quarterback

Jackson, perhaps the league’s most electrifying player since he arrived in 2018, needed 87 rushing yards to pass Vick early in the contest.

He did most of it on a 48-yard dash that opened up the game even more and brought the score to 24-2, a play in which he reached 21.25 miles per hour, the third-fastest speed achieved by a quarterback the Next Gen Stats era.

Jackson calmly considered his own height and was surprised to learn that it was also the fastest time he had ever achieved as a ball carrier in his career.

“I went jogging,” he said. “I was straight. I didn’t have to do anything.”

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old’s record day was driven by far more than a single carry. He frustrated Houston’s D throughout the contest by buying himself plenty of time in the pocket and picking up valuable yards with his feet to allow for easy conversions, and he was efficient with his arm while throwing two touchdowns on 10 of 15 passes .

Jackson is so dominant that it only took him 102 games in his career to set the new standard, 41 fewer than Vick.

He’s sure to add many more yards to his tally in the coming weeks and years, but with the playoffs approaching, he’s hoping to make his most important run yet – one to the Super Bowl.
