Ravens vs. Chargers result, live updates: The Harbaugh brothers will meet for the third time as NFL head coaches on Monday Night Football

After suffering a tough loss in Pittsburgh last week, the Baltimore Ravens head west to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football. The two clubs are firmly entrenched in the AFC playoffs, but a win on Monday will go a long way toward staying there with a head-to-head tiebreaker in hand. The Ravens’ electrifying offense was slowed somewhat by an 18-16 loss to the Steelers last week, with Derrick Henry held to just 65 yards and Lamar Jackson having his worst passing day of the season. Maybe they can get back on track against a Chargers defense that allowed the Bengals 452 yards last week – much of it part of a second-half comeback that fell just short.

Los Angeles will be looking to build on this narrow victory in which they blew a 21-point lead only to score a late touchdown and survive. Justin Herbert threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns last week, while rookie receiver Ladd McConkey had his second 100-yard game in the NFL and could be a top target again this week. Star pass rusher Khalil Mack, who missed last week’s game with a groin injury, was listed as questionable to start Week 12.

With Jim Harbaugh back on the NFL sideline this year, he will also be joining his brother John on the opposing sideline for the first time since the Ravens beat the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.

Live14 updates

  • The Chargers sting again

The Chargers punt again after stalling at midfield, pushing the Ravens deep into their own territory with a punt. Baltimore will start at its own 7-yard line and score with 3:54 left before halftime.

  • Derrick Henry sets up Lamar Jackson for the touchdown

Derrick Henry raced through the Chargers’ defenses for 33 yards on two runs on Baltimore’s first two plays of the second quarter. In the red zone, Lamar Jackson ran a 10-yard keeper of his own for a touchdown, bringing the Ravens onto the field. Baltimore’s one-two punch was perfect and the Ravens cut the Chargers’ lead to 10-7 midway through the second quarter.

  • Chargers extend lead to 10-0

The Chargers tried and converted on a 4-1 run at the Baltimore 30, but did not get another first down. A nine-play, 40-yard drive ends with a 42-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker. The Chargers extended their lead to 10-0 at the start of the second quarter.

  • The Ravens punt again

The Ravens failed to get a first down on their second possession and have not yet made it to midfield. They punt after a three-and-out.

  • Chargers sting after the ride stalls

The Chargers did not score on their second drive. They converted a three-and-13 deep in their own territory, but fell short after failing to convert on third-and-5 before reaching midfield. The Chargers lead 7-0 late in the first quarter.

  • A penalty prevents the Ravens’ opening attack

The Ravens continued to drive forward on their first possession before a penalty put the game away. A leg kick to fullback Patrick Ricard negated a 17-yard gain to the Chargers’ 43-yard line. Instead of the first-and-10 in Chargers’ territory, the Ravens faced their own first-and-25 and did not gain another first down before punting.

The punishment was borderline at best:

  • Chargers strike first and have a precise opening drive

Jim Harbaugh couldn’t have asked for a better start. The Chargers completed a nine-play, 70-yard drive on their first possession that ended with a Justin Herbert touchdown run on a second-and-goal scramble. Seven runs, two passes and no third downs, and the Chargers lead 7-0 early.

  • Start of the game: The Chargers have the ball first

The Chargers received the first kickoff and started the game on offense after a touchback. “Monday Night Football” is underway.

  • John Harbaugh on coaching against Jim

Ravens coach John Harbaugh spoke to ESPN about practicing against his brother.

“He’s a great coach, he’s a great man, a great leader. And he has a great football team. So that makes it complicated.

  • Jim Harbaugh: “I wouldn’t let (John) win a football game.”

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke about practicing against his brother John in a sideline interview with ESPN shortly before kickoff:

“I love my brother,” Harbaugh said. “I would give my life for my brother.” But I wouldn’t let him win a football game. And he wouldn’t want it that way.

  • The Harbaugh brothers meet before the game

It’s just hugs between John and Jim Harbaugh in their pregame meeting during warmups.

  • Inactive chargers are present

There are no notable surprises with inactive chargers.

  • Ravens inactive: Roquan Smith is out against the Chargers

The Ravens are inactive and Pro Bowl linebacker Roquan Smith is out with a hamstring injury. The Ravens will be without their leading tackler against a rejuvenated Chargers offense.
