Real Madrid beat fourth division team Deportivo Minera in the Copa del Rey on Monday evening. Luka Modric and Arda Guler ensured a 5-0 win for Los Blancos with a controlled midfield.

Guler scored twice and Modric added another – while the duo took the lead in between and gave Madrid a comfortable cup win. It didn’t take long for Madrid to gain a foothold in the game. Arda Guler and Endrick had good chances almost immediately. Shortly afterwards, Federico Valverde went one better and scored the first goal after five minutes with a beautiful volley over the back of a weak Minera defense. Shortly afterwards, Camavinga followed up with a second goal, nodding into the goal at the far post. Guler made it 3-0 before half-time, his deflected finish putting the goalkeeper offside and giving Los Blancos clear daylight.

And they didn’t let up even after the break. Modric capped a wonderful hour with his fourth – and his first ever – in the Copa Del Rey. Guler added another goal late on, finishing off a flowing move with a side-footed shot into the open net.

They were looking for Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe, who were desperately trying to score a goal. But otherwise it was a measured performance from Los Blancos, they never looked troubled for 90 minutes and won comfortably against a lower league side. On to the round of 16…
