Recent food recalls could impact holidays: See December 2024 recalls

Before you start cooking holiday dinner this year, make sure none of your ingredients are on the list of foods being recalled by the Food and Drug Administration this month.

The FDA receives reports from various food companies almost daily about potential allergens or foodborne illnesses.

Here are some of the recalls for the second half of December.

FDA Recalls: Here is a list of what was removed from stores in December 2024

The FDA removed the following items from store shelves in December, citing reasons:

Daily Vegetable Enoki Mushrooms. Recalled due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Buy-herbal.com Nhan Sam Tuyet Lien Truy Phong Hoan dietary supplement in capsules. Recalled due to unapproved medication
Connie’s Cheese Thin Crust Frozen Pizza, 20.36 oz. Recalled due to possible metallic or chemical contamination.
VidaSlim Brand 90 Day, 30 Day and 7 Day Original Root, Root Plus and Root Capsules and VidaSlim Hot Body Brew Dietary Supplements. Recall due to product containing toxic yellow oleander.
Cal Yee’s, Cal Yee Farm, Boa Vista Orchards Nut and Snack Products. Recalled due to potential or undeclared allergens – almond, milk, soy, wheat, sesame and FD&C #6
Force Forever dietary supplement. The product contains undeclared diclofenac and dexamethasone.
Fouzee SugarLin Herbal Formula herbal dietary supplement. The recalled product contains undeclared metformin and glyburide.
Frito-Lay Lays potato chip. Recalled due to potential or undeclared allergen – milk.
Orgain 30g Plant Based Protein Complete Protein Powder – Chocolate. Recalled because it may contain undeclared peanuts.
Taste of Germany Frozen butter vegetables, carrots, peas, cauliflower and corn. Recalled because the product contains undeclared milk.
Par Pharmaceutical Epinephrine Chloride Solution (EPINEPHrin Nasal Solution, USP). The product is an unapproved medication.
Jose Madrid Chipotle Con Queso Salsa. Recalled because Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 were not declared.

What should customers do if they have a recalled product in their home?

It’s good to know if you’ve recently purchased a recalled product. If you have these products at home, follow these steps, according to FoodSafety.gov.

No panic: Most food recalls are not directly related to a foodborne illness outbreak. Instead, many recalls are initiated due to the potential risk of contamination of the food product. In such cases, food manufacturers often issue a recall as a preventive measure to protect consumers.
Do not eat the food or consume the medication: To ensure your safety, do not consume the recalled foods. Caution is always more important than convenience. Additionally, please refrain from donating the recalled food to food banks or giving it to your pets, as they are also susceptible to food poisoning.
Do not open the food: To prevent foodborne illness, avoid opening and inspecting food. Bacteria and viruses responsible for such diseases are invisible, odorless and tasteless. If you come into contact with the product, be sure to clean your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap for 20 seconds.
Read the recall notice to find out what to do with the food: In the event of a food recall by a manufacturer, specific instructions on how to handle the product will be provided. These instructions generally include one of the following actions: Return the product to the original store where you purchased it for a refund. Dispose of the product safely to prevent human or animal consumption, especially if the product has been opened.
