Recently retired QB will sign with NFC North contender (Report)

Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement to return to the NFL.

The veteran quarterback is expected to sign with the Detroit Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Thursday.

Bridgewater retired from the NFL after the 2023 season at age 31, with plans to coach high school football. Bridgewater did just that, coaching his former high school, Miami Northwestern, to a state championship in his first season at the helm.

He announced to Rapoport and Tom Pelissero earlier this month that the plan was to return to the NFL in the short term.

“My team knows that’s the plan,” he said. “We wanted to win a state championship and then coach goes back to the league, sees what happens and then comes back in February in the offseason and continues to coach high school football. “We’ll see how it turns out.”

Bridgewater spent the 2023 season with the Lions – who can win the NFC North Division and the No. 1 seed in Week 17.

A first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, Bridgewater also spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos.

In 79 career games, Bridgewater went 33-32, throwing for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
