Red One will be Amazon’s biggest streaming release

Red — the holiday action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans — has become Amazon MGM’s biggest opening on its Prime Video service.

The company says over 50 million viewers worldwide watched the holiday film in the first four days of its release on the service. Previously, Street house Amazon took the top spot with 50 million viewers in the first two weeks of release.

(Amazon didn’t clarify how it got there Red Number. In comparison, Netflix and Disney+ divide the running time of a film by the total number of viewers.)

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said: “Every film is different and we are so grateful for the partnership with our filmmakers who together found the right strategy to bring this film to the widest possible audience.” RedThere was no doubt that the strategy had to include a theatrical release and an associated marketing campaign that would attract audiences to theaters and promote the film to viewers who would ultimately tune in to Prime Video. As opposed to Road House, Red One came to cinemas. The film has been released on over 3,000 screens in North America and 3,300 screens internationally, with a current gross of over $175 million.

Red In the lead role, Johnson plays the North Pole’s head of security, who must team up with a hacker from the “Villain List” (Evans) after Santa Claus is kidnapped and Christmas must be saved.
