The Boston Red Sox have finally landed their dream ace in a blockbuster deal, acquiring lefty Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. Crochet comes to Boston with a huge package of prospects. What’s next for the Red Sox?

Ideally, the Red Sox could add another starter, and FanSided’s Zachary Rotman thinks that’s a real possibility. Rotman recently listed the Red Sox as a top team to sign free agent Corbin Burnes from the Baltimore Orioles. Jon Heyman of the New York Post predicts Burnes will receive a $210 million contract, but if Max Fried receives a $218 million contract, Burnes could be worth over $250 million.

“The Red Sox finally got their ace with Crochet. But does that mean they have to stop? Why can’t they sign another ace in Burnes? Is that realistic? Maybe not, but why is that? We know the Red Sox have money to spend, given their $700 million offer for Juan Soto. They even made Fried a pretty good offer before he signed with the Yankees,” Rotman wrote. “Why exactly can’t the Red Sox bring themselves to sign Burnes? By signing Burnes, they would form a trio that few teams can match with Burnes, Crochet and Tanner Houck – and that’s with solid forces like Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford.” Suddenly the Red Sox would go from a questionable rotation to one become the best in the American League.

Boston certainly has the money for such a deal. The Red Sox left a $700 million deal on the table for superstar Juan Soto and have yet to invest anything in free agency.

The Red Sox have a few holes in the lineup that they could fill, but adding Burnes should be a top priority.
