Red Sox trade for Garrett Crochet, deal C Kyle Teel to White Sox

DALLAS – The Red Sox reached an agreement to acquire White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet on Wednesday, according to a major league source.

The deal is expected to include top catcher Kyle Teel and several other prospects, although none of the organization’s other top names – such as Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony or Kristian Campbell – are involved.

Along with Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth, Wikelman Gonzalez and two first-round picks are heading to the White Sox.

The 25-year-old Crochet has been a key target for the Red Sox throughout the offseason. The left-hander has a dominant fastball that generates plenty of swings and misses – exactly what the Red Sox were looking for. The Red Sox were also looking for an ace, and Crochet fits those expectations.

In 32 starts last season, Crochet posted a 3.58 ERA and struck out a whopping 209 batters in 146 innings.

Crochet comes with two years of team control and represents the Red Sox’s latest push to return to the postseason for the first time since 2021.

Teel was recently named one of Baseball America’s top 25 prospects in all of minor league baseball, ranking fourth in the Red Sox organization.
