Turns out sales are bad.

Alabama turned the ball over four times in a row on its first four possessions of this game: a fourth down sack and an unforced fumble, an interception and a strip sack. This all resulted in Michigan having an average starting position of…21 yards from goal. It also didn’t help that there was a well-placed rainstorm in Tampa that dropped about two inches of water in five minutes, and for some reason Alabama couldn’t handle the wet field while Michigan seemed unfazed seemed to let.

Still, Alabama’s defense stood firm. Kane Wommack’s group stopped three of four short drives to force field goals and allowed a touchdown. Throughout the half, the Alabama defense allowed a whopping 3.2 yards per play and completely shut down the Wolverine offense except for a few nice catches from a guy named Frederick Moore.

But the Alabama offense… After the first four drives of rolling dumpster fire, they seemed to have figured something out, putting together back-to-back scoring drives the length of the field. Jalen Milroe hit a TD pass to Robbie Ouzts, followed by a 41-yard scraper on 3rd down and a sideline ball to Germie Bernard, setting up a field goal as halftime expired.

Despite the utter disaster for Milroe and the Alabama offense, the defense was crazy and held the Wolverines at bay long enough for the Alabama offense to figure out how to operate competently. Alabama is back in the game and only trails by 6 points, and the offense owes the defense a nice steak dinner for it.

We hope that they can continue to move the ball forward functionally in the second half.

Roll Tide.
