What we know

U.S. Capitol Police officers arrested a man Tuesday night after an alleged attack on U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in the Rayburn House Office Building.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m., when Rep. Mace’s office reported the attack to Capitol Police.

Who attacked Rep. Nancy Mace?

Agents from the House Division of Representatives and agents from the Threat Assessment Division were able to quickly locate the suspect, identified as James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois.

After an investigative interview, McIntyre was arrested and charged with assault on a government official.

What Rep. Mace says

Rep. Mace commented on the incident via . Capitol Police arrested the guy.

“Your violence and threats against my life will only make me give in again. FAFO,” she added.

At the time of the incident, the Rayburn House office building was open to the public.

Authorities confirmed that McIntyre went through standard security screening before entering the building.

An investigation is ongoing.
