Sunday could be the last time Aaron Rodgers takes the field as quarterback in an NFL game.

“I would say very much up in the air,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said of Rodgers’ future. “Hearing Rodgers’ rather heartfelt words this week, he sounded like someone who is at least preparing for the possibility of him playing his last game. I’m not talking about the (New York) Jets, I’m talking about the plain last.” Game…

There are several people around him who I know are preparing for the fact that this could actually happen. “

If Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins is Rodgers’ final game, he won’t necessarily emerge victorious.

The Jets are 4-12 and are clearly one of the most disappointing teams in the league this season considering the overall talent on the roster. They have been playing the strings of the 2024 season for some time and now all they can do is finish off the Dolphins.

The Cincinnati Bengals are certainly hoping they can do just that, as AFC North teams need a loss from the Dolphins and Denver Broncos on Sunday to make the playoffs. Bengals offensive lineman Orlando Brown Jr. even had an offer for Rodgers:

Orlando Brown Jr. says there will be text messages to his former teammates in KC on Sunday morning to get things done against Denver.

Rodgers is 41 years old and suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury in the first game of the 2023 season. It would be far from surprising if he were to retire after this disappointing Jets season, and he was quite pensive while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

The future Hall of Famer said he will try to “stay in the moment” during Sunday’s game and “needs a break mentally” before deciding his future:

Aaron Rodgers on his future with the #Jetsor in other words: “I need a mental break. I don’t want to make a decision until I’ve had a chance to rest mentally and physically… I just need a break to refresh myself, put my feet in the sand and see where I am after that.
“March is free…”

He’s not the same dominant force that rose to the top of the game in his prime with the Green Bay Packers. Instead, he’s a less consistent version of that performer, only showing flashes of his former greatness rather than asserting his status as one of the league’s best.

There will be plenty of changes for the Jets this offseason, with a new general manager and a new head coach at the top of the list.

Maybe they need a new quarterback.
