After playing in two games for the South Bay Lakers in the G League Showcase in Orlando last week, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James is expected to be reinstated to the team’s main roster.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, “James and Maxwell Lewis were recalled from the South Bay by the Lakers on Sunday with the expectation that they will be in uniform for the Lakers’ home game on Monday” against the Detroit Pistons.

James had 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals in a 98-90 loss to the Greensboro Swarm on Thursday. Lewis, who also played, contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in the loss. In Saturday’s 120-104 win over the Osceola Magic, Lewis had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, while James finished with six points and seven assists.

South Bay doesn’t play again until Friday with back-to-back road games against the Cleveland Charge, giving James and Lewis a chance to gain experience with the main squad. South Bay’s next home game is January 7 against the Delaware Blue Coats.

The recall of James and Lewis comes after the Lakers released their injury report for Monday’s game, which revealed that both Anthony Davis and James’ father, LeBron James, were questionable. Davis suffered a bruised left elbow while James is tending to the left foot injury.

Despite an inconsistent start, the Lakers are in first place in the Pacific Division with a record of 16-12. Los Angeles has won three straight games (12-17) heading into Monday’s matchup against Detroit.

Maybe Bronny James will get a chance to spend some time on the floor against the Pistons as the struggling Lakers look to extend their winning streak.
