Report: Colts starting wideout Josh Downs expected to play against Broncos

According to ESPN Stephen Holder, Indianapolis Colts Starting position far away Josh Downs (“Questionable”) is expected to play in Sunday’s crucial game against the Denver Broncos despite a recent shoulder injury (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter):

The second-year wide receiver has been a full participant in back-to-back practices, so he was certainly inclined to be available in a must-win Colts road game.

He missed the Week 13 road win against the New England Patriots.

On the season, Downs has 53 receptions for 594 yards (11.2 avg) and 4 touchdown receptions in 6 starts.

His return should be a big boost for second-year starter Anthony Richardson, who has increasing chemistry between downs and downs – the latter providing a reliable safety channel in the short to middle areas of the football field.

The Broncos have allowed the 13th-most passing yards with 221.0 total passing yards per game, but have allowed just 18.0 total points per game (which is second-best among all units).

Denver’s starting number is Ja’Quan McMillan, who has an overall PFF grade of +65.3, which is the 83rd highest grade of any player at the cornerback position.

Whether Downs will reach 100% remains to be seen, but his availability should provide another much-needed weapon for the Indianapolis passing attack against a rather stingy defense.
