Report: Kings have ‘zero interest’ in trading Fox before deadline

Report: The Kings have ‘no interest’ in trading with Fox before the deadline originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

The Kings have reached a new low after capping a five-game home defeat with a miserable 114-113 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Thursday.

They fell to five games under .500 with a record of 13-18 and remain at the bottom of the Western Conference, ahead of only the Portland Trail Blazers at 10-20, the Utah Jazz at 7-22 and the New Orleans Pelicans at 5-26 .

Given the talent on the roster, especially after signing six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan over the summer, Sacramento has failed to live up to expectations this season. Among those talents is the team’s star point guard, De’Aaron Fox, who is embroiled in trade speculation given his team’s disappointing performance.

But even though it seems like things have reached a breaking point for Sacramento, the team isn’t ready to pull the plug on its franchise star just yet.

The Kings have “no interest” in trading Fox before the NBA’s Feb. 6 deadline, Clutch Point’s Brett Siegel reported Friday morning, citing multiple league sources. Siegel added that the Kings still view the 27-year-old as the face of the franchise and intend to give him the supermax contract extension he wants.

“While this will be a hot topic in league circles over the next few months and into the offseason, Sacramento and Fox do not intend to part ways at this time,” Siegel wrote.

Fox turned down an extension with the Kings before the 2024-25 season because he wanted to wait and see how the season would play out and ultimately wanted to win at a high level and compete for championships.

He has clearly expressed his love for the city of Sacramento and its fans, recently saying on The Draymond Green Show that he would like to be one of the few players allowed to play for one organization for their entire NBA career.

But in the end, it all comes down to winning – something the Kings have failed to do time and time again in 31 games this season.

And if things could change quickly for Sacramento, things should get worse this season. The pressure on Kings general manager Monte McNair and Co. has already increased. He reportedly met with Fox agent Rich Paul last week to discuss what the future holds for the former All-Star.

If the paths do indeed lead to a trade, it appears Fox will have plenty of suitors. The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly already preparing for a possible move for the young guard.

However, this point has not yet been reached.
