Report: Lakers guard Olivari signs shoe deal with Idol Curry’s brand originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

It’s not every day that you get to meet your idol – and develop a working relationship with them.

Los Angeles Lakers two-way guard Quincy Olivari was lucky enough to live that reality with NBA superstar and Warriors guard Steph Curry — and it got even sweeter on Friday.

Olivari was signed to Under Armor by Curry’s standalone company Curry Brand, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, citing sources. He becomes the second active NBA player to sign with Curry Brand, joining Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox.

The 23-year-old apparently confirmed the news with a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“God, thank you for these blessings you have given me,” Olivari wrote. “A shoe deal, wow.”

Olivari touched the NBA and sports world when he became emotional after meeting Curry, his childhood role model, after a Lakers preseason game against the Warriors in October.

After the game, Olivari showed Curry a video of the two of them from years ago when the four-time NBA champion signed Olivari’s Curry jersey. Years later, Olivari wore his own NBA jersey while speaking about his inspiration. Curry also gave Olivari a pair of signed shoes.

The Atlanta native was asked about that particular encounter while speaking to reporters in the Bay moments later, and he became emotional as he reflected on what those few minutes meant to him.

“I liked him since I was in sixth grade,” Olivari said, choking up. “I don’t even know what to say. This is my favorite player ever. The first thing he said to me was, ‘I’m a big fan of your game.’ And to be honest, I’m a big fan of his. He signed it twice. I just wanted to be like him.

“So just having the opportunity to get to know him and him having some respect for me and then we chat in the background. He gave me his shoes and signed them. That meant the world to me. My father knows it, my mother knows it. It.” It just means a lot. I don’t know, it just means a lot.

The Lakers guard shared an Instagram post of the two with a photo of the signed shoes and a throwback picture of him in a Curry jersey.

“Dreams do come true,” he wrote.

Curry commented on the post and later wrote one of his own.

“Pleasure, brother,” he wrote. “I appreciate you being real and telling me the story!!”

As if the heartwarming story couldn’t be any more touching, Olivari’s signature shoe will be as special as it can be.

And a full-circle moment he will never forget.
