Report: Oregon quarterback commit Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele is entering the transfer portal

One of Oregon football’s top recruits from the 2025 class is reportedly entering the transfer portal just weeks after enrolling early.

According to a report from Brandon Huffman of 247Sports, new four-star quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele is expected to enter the portal this weekend. The top recruit from Hawaii transferred from California to Oregon on signing day and had already enrolled at UO, where he worked out with the Ducks leading up to their Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State.

The reason for Sagapolutele’s sudden transfer is unclear. Players from teams eliminated from bowl games on Jan. 1 will have a five-day window to enter the portal, and that apparently includes newcomers to college programs.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Sagapolutele was the No. 9 quarterback and No. 88 player overall in the country. He was rated four stars by 247, but five stars by other recruiting sites. He finished his high school career as the state of Hawaii’s leading passer with 10,653 yards, surpassing former Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Oregon also signed four-star quarterback Akili Smith Jr. (Calif.) from the class of 2025.
