Report: Washington State is expected to finalize the contract with South Dakota State coach Jimmy Rogers

Washington state is reportedly in his sights State of South Dakota trainer Jimmy Rogers for his head coaching job, according to a report from Yahoo! Sport’ Ross Dellenger.

Dellenger reports that the deal “is not yet finalized but is expected to close soon.”

Rogers won the 2023 NCAA Division I championship with South Dakota State, posting a perfect 15-0 season. He has a 27-3 overall record in his two years with the program and boasts a 15-1 conference record.

Jimmy Rogers spent much of his playing and coaching career at South Dakota State. He played linebacker for the program from 2005 to 2009, becoming an all-conference player and team captain.

He then began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at South Dakota State University from 2010 to 2011.

From there he branched out to Florida Atlantic, where he worked as a research associate from 2012 to 2013. But the connection to South Dakota was real and he would soon return as linebackers coach.

He served in that role at South Dakota State from 2013 to 2018 before being promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2019. Jimmy Rogers served as the sole defensive coordinator in 2022 and took over as head coach in 2023.

After that, the head coaching position at Washington State became available Jake Dickert left for the open position Wachwald earlier this offseason.

Dickert was the head coach at Washington State for the last three and a half years, where he compiled an overall record of 23-20 and a record of 9-14 in conference play.
