Crockett’s office responded to Mace’s statement, claiming that Mace had threatened Crockett with physical violence and that her “offensive statements” illustrated the need to reinstate the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
The incident occurred on the same day that the House of Representatives passed a bill banning transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports at publicly funded schools.
