WWE Raw on Netflix highlights, winners and grades

Triple H ushers in WWE’s Netflix era

After an incredible video package on a screen covering the ring, an explosion of pyrotechnics caused the cover to fall down, revealing Triple H with a huge bang.

Triple H reminded the already lively crowd that they were being seen by the whole world. Then he asked, “Are you ready?!” Of course they were.

Triple H Open Grade: A

The Rock appears live on Netflix

The Rock announced the biggest live gate for a WWE Raw before making one Squid games Reference. He then called out Cody Rhodes for “carrying this company on his back for a year.” Rhodes received an unreal reaction when he was shown on the big screen. Rock then (almost) jokingly said, “Tell Mama Rhodes The Rock says hello.”

Rock recognized his cousin Roman Reigns as tribal chief. He then doubled down on his statement, saying Reigns was the “original tribal chief.” Something tells me this shoutout won’t age well.

The Rock Promo Grade: A-

Roman Reigns Def. Solo Sikoa

In honor of the Netflix era, the referees will wear new black polo shirts.

Loud “Fk you Solo!” Chants broke out after Paul Heyman’s spirited introduction to “Roman Reigns.”

WWE aired an incredible video package showcasing the history of Tribal Combat for live audiences.

Solo Sikoa fought off all the anti-Solo chants and hit Reigns with a chair. Solo tried to pillman Reigns with a running butt bump on a chair, but Reigns dodged out of the way with a huge pop. Now it was Roman’s turn to get revenge with a steel chair.

With the loudest bang yet, Roman bombarded Reigns Solo through a table in the middle of the ring, causing a nearfall. The fans were furious when Tama Tonga broke up the nearfall. Jacob Fatu cleaned up with a double jump moonsault. Still, Reigns kicked out at two.

Solo took out the referee out of frustration with a Samoan Spike, which brought Sami Zayn and Jimmy Uso to the equalizer. After a near fall from Roman Reigns, fans chanted, “This is great!” A historically great audience for Raw’s Netflix debut.

Amazingly, Kevin Owens came out of nowhere to attack Reigns with a stunner. Near fall. Cue the “Cody” chant and Cody responded by hitting the ring before Owens could hit Reigns with a Package Piledriver. Owens and Rhodes pushed their way into the crowd.

Roman Reigns won with a spear. After the match, Paul Heyman presented the Saint Ula Fala to…The Rock. Whoever a knighted Roman rules with it. There was no heel turn. Everyone got their happy ending…for now.

Tribal Battle Grade: A

John Cena appears live

The New Day put out a great heel promo burying Kendrick Lamar in Inglewood and saying Drake won.

John Cena was showered with chants of “Thanks, Cena” from the LA crowd. Cena referred to his time in LA as “The Prototype” when he wrestled in the UPW in Orange County.

Cena teased wrestling greats like Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes in his final match at WrestleMania. When he said he could become a 17-time world champion, the fans said, “You deserve it!” Cena said it had been 2,446 days since he won his last world title fight. That’s crazy.

Cena said it would take a miracle to win a championship match, i.e. win Money in the Bank, survive the Elimination Chamber or win the Royal Rumble. Fans really loved the Royal Rumble reference.

Cena ended a spirited promo promising to win the Royal Rumble. That would be a truly great moment, but if an aspiring heel were to eliminate Cena in the Royal Rumble, it would be tantamount to the end of The Undertaker’s streak.

John Cena promo grade: B+

Rhea Ripley Def. Liv Morgan

WWE featured various legends and superstars on site, including Danielle Fischel, Gabriel Iglesias, X-Pac, Shinsuke Nakamura, LA Knight, Bianca Belair, Naomi, Michael Che, Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin.

Despite the recent surge in online support for Liv Morgan, this has been a very pro-mommy audience.

Morgan jumped out of a Riptide to the surprise of many. Not to be outdone, Ripley has left Oblivion.

Morgan hits Ripley with the Three Amigo Suplexes, which is like ordering Eddie Guerrero from Starbucks.

Ripley fights back to help Morgan win with not one, but two more Riptides. After her big win, Dominik Mysterio tried to kiss Rhea and make up with her, but she also ambushed him with a Riptide. Ripley was then knighted by none other than “The American Badass” Undertaker.

The Miz and Karrion Kross performed a live promo in the audience where Miz said he could beat John Cena in the Royal Rumble.

Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan Grade: B+

Jey Uso Def. Drew McIntyre

Travis Scott went to see “Fiend” and smoked a blunt in Los Angeles like he could only do on Netflix. He was followed by Jey Uso, whose performance alone required him to be in top condition.

Uso attacked McIntyre with a dive before his entry was successful. After all the time they spent on Jey’s performance, this match had to start sooner rather than later.

There was a dueling “Let’s Go Jey/Let’s Go Drew!” chant.

As Drew went to the Claymore, Uso fell to his knees. McIntyre went for a second Claymore but missed and was caught in a crucifix rollup by Jey for the upset win.

Drew McIntyre vs. Jey Uso Grade: B

Hulk Hogan is booed out of the building on Netflix

Hulk Hogan’s second musical hit was showered with boos. It felt like he was doing a promo at the Democratic National Convention. He was flanked by Jimmy Hart, but that didn’t matter. These people booed this man.

The boos reached their peak when Hogan downed his Real American Beer. Hogan then ripped his shirt to reveal a Netflix t-shirt and was booed even more. There’s no way WWE could have predicted this. What a disaster.

Hulk Hogan Segment: D

CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins

CM Punk has always been a fan of AEW and walked out in the same jacket he wore at the infamous Brawl In.

There were dueling chants of “Let’s go, Rollins/CM Punk!” By the end of the night, a babyface will have won every match of the night.

Seth Rollins countered the GTS with a GTS of his own for a blistering nearfall. These two professionals mastered this match perfectly.

Rollins and Punk brawled on the table and Seth hit a Pedigree on Punk. The table didn’t break. Rollins hit a second Pedigree in the ring for a near fall.

Seth hit a rare buckle bomb followed by a curbstomp, but Punk put his foot on the rope. When the game ended on Netflix, it was 8:00 PM PST. CM Punk countered a Superplex/Falcon Arrow combination for two GTS. The second GTS wasn’t really convincing, but it was enough for Punk to secure the win. WWE Raw on Netflix went off air at 8:03 p.m. A homemade show.

Earlier in the night, Roman Reigns said he would like to be officially recognized as Tribal Chief on January 27th. Could this be the start of a major confrontation with Punk involving his mysterious favor with Heyman?
